Maria Carmen Santana

( English | español ) I have worked on the field of psychology for more than 20 years, first as an undergraduate student in University of Havana, Cuba, then Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona, Spain and finally in Atlanta, Georgia, where I completed my internship and postdoctoral studies at Emory University. As part of my training and the last 11 years in private practice, I have had the privilege of working with very diverse and culturally different populations. This has given me the opportunity to see human experience from a much broader and deeper perspective. I have served the Hispanic community since 2008. I am licensed in Georgia and Florida. In my daily work as a therapist I strive to see my clients not only in the context of their immediate relationships but rather in relation to their personal history, family structure and the influence of the surrounding environment and the issues that affect their functioning. I love my work with children and adolescents, and I feel a strong passion in helping my adult clients to find the meaning in their lives, to recover their self-confidence and to better understand and resolve challenges in life. Mi carrera como psicóloga comenzó hace mas de 20 años, primero como estudiante en la Universidad de La Habana, Cuba, luego en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, ​​España y finalmente en Atlanta, Georgia, donde completé mis prácticas y estudios posdoctorales en la Universidad de Emory. Durante todos estos años he tenido la oportunidad de trabajar con mis clientes desde una perspectiva amplia y profunda, esforzándome siempre en ver al ser humano en el contexto no solamente de sus relaciones inmediatas sino en relación con su experiencia cultural y todo el medio que les rodea. Amo mi trabajo con niños y adolescentes, y siento una gran pasión por ayudar a mis clientes adultos a encontrar el significado en sus vidas, mientras recuperan la confianza en sí mismos. En nuestra interaction terapeutica mis clientes aprenden a comprender y resolver mejor los desafíos y retos que enfrentamos a diario. Entre mis áreas de especialización se encuentran: trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad, trastornos de estrés postraumático, ansiedad, depresión, problemas relacionales, el choque cultural y la adaptación, duelo, problemas de ajuste, problemas de comunicación, manejo del stress, problemas de la adolescencia y modificación del comportamiento.
