Therapist Overview
John Gatto joins the Innersight family following a rewarding career in a variety of counseling settings. John’s educational background began with a BS in Social Work, followed by an MS in Counseling from California University of PA and a Secondary School Counseling Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh. John spent many years working with patients in a hospital psychiatric setting, followed by a position as a Mental Health Consultant, working in both out-patient and school counseling. Most recently, John focused his talents at Somerset Area School District as a Guidance Counselor, where he retired last year. Client centered therapies including cognitive behavioral, reality, and Rogerian therapies are primary modes of treatment. Steering clients through gaining insight, empowerment, discernment, and independent decision making are the goals in counseling. Trust and unconditional positive regard are the concepts used to facilitate healing and closure. Building positive relationships, trust, and non-judgmental approaches are effective ways of getting a client to open up and discuss conflicts and painful events (baggage) that continually block a person from being content, happy, or having a sense of peace each day. Resolving issues and increasing insight are the keys to healing.
