Therapist Overview
As an African American male, I am well aware of the reluctance in our community to express personal feelings of pain, distress and overall discomfort around the things troubling us. African and Latin Americans specifically but people of color in general, share the same mental health issues as the rest of the world, with arguably even greater stressors due to racism, prejudice, oppression and economic disparities. Work, family responsibilities and other commitments often take priority over the need for therapy/counseling, which can be viewed as a luxury item instead of necessary self-care. My goal is to help inspire you to be your best self, to have a life with healthy supportive relationships, to learn how to express your feelings and communicate your needs in ways that are properly received, to achieve mental and emotional wellness and achieve a healthy balance between work, family and pleasure. I can help you learn more about yourself, increase both self-compassion and compassion for others, and heal past trauma. While none of us can change the past, we can learn from it and make thoughtful, positive decisions that will shape our future. We can explore ways to help you feel more connected to yourself, your values and the people you care about.
