Finding the “right” counselor can feel impossible when it’s your first time looking, or even when it’s your third, fourth, or fifth time after another not-so-great encounter. An accumulation of failed attempts can lead to feeling wary of trying again, making counseling feel less attainable and increasing distress in many individuals, couples, and families of diverse backgrounds. However, when counseling is approached with multicultural and feminist perspectives, it opens up many doors for minority populations seeking to better understand and cope with their mental health, allowing for the possibility of feeling understood. I incorporate multiculturalism and feminism into my clinical work to help demystify the stigmas present in many minority communities around counseling and mental health, offering a safe space for people of diverse backgrounds struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma & PTSD, grief & loss, racial & ethnic identity conflicts, or relationship challenges.
