Psychotherapy is most commonly sought in response to pain caused by symptoms such as depression, anxiety, compulsions, relationship troubles, low self-esteem, and dissociation. Many people are surprised to learn that symptoms point the way to emotional skills that are yet to be sufficiently developed. Developing these skills occurs as we shift our orientation to exploring experience rather than living in the stories that we have constructed to explain our lives. Mustering the courage to explore beyond what we already know is the heart of meaningful change. System-Centered® Therapy takes a collaborative approach to the challenge of human change by offering people methods and skills such as centering, exploring experience in the present moment, and learning to discriminate between old coping patterns / defenses and new experience that emerges when we are free to open and explore our feelings without restraint. SCT therapy is different from many other forms of therapy in our emphasis on exploring experience rather than explaining what we already know, and in our use of joining one another so that nobody works alone.
