We biologically find ways to help us navigate those moments most effectively. Often, those attempts to survive and cope include numbing or dissociating from our emotional experience. These responses may be needed temporarily, but our bodies aren’t meant to suppress emotions long term which often leads to other symptoms. My practice is rooted in the neuroscience that our bodies naturally hold the ability to help us process through overwhelming, threatening, and traumatic experiences. While utilizing body-based therapies like EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, we can partner together to help your system learn to re-establish a sense of safety, decrease symptoms, and heal.
