What is Sensorimotor Psychotherapy?

Home » Treatment Therapies » Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy focuses on addressing unresolved trauma.

As a result of trauma, a person’s brain can change. These changes can manifest themselves in physical and psychological issues. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy aims to treat the body to help heal the mind.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy uses physical sensation to address the connection with emotional responses in individuals with trauma.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy’s goal is for you to manage the physical sensations that arise when confronted by things that remind you of your trauma. It also seeks to connect the mind and body to help you regulate yourself after experiencing trauma.

I believe healing involves knowing all aspects of oneself more deeply, and in doing so, recognizing, honoring and cultivating compassion towards both how we came to be, and who we can become. My approach is relational and collaborative. I work with clients to build a space that is safe and connected enough to engage with the challenges that foster growth. We exist in context. I am passionate ab...

Like characters from our favorite stories, we often get stuck when we encounter obstacles on the journey toward who/where we want to be. Perhaps you’re at a stuck point. Perhaps you’re dealing with shame, self-doubt, traumatic stress, grief, anxiety, emotional imbalance, unstable relationships, or an outlook that only seems to be hurting you. I have some good news: “stuckness” doesn’t have to b...

The majority of people who come to see me are ready for change. Something in their life has stopped working. Something has become a barrier to happiness. Are you suffering silently? Do you often feel alone? Do ...

These days, many of us are busy - working multiple jobs, raising families, commuting and many of us never take the time to stop or pause. I support my clients in slowing down and bringing their attention to the parts of themselves that they so often forget. The wounds, traumas, grief, joy, & growth can all be acknowledged and integrated in therapy - hopefully, resulting in a more meaningful...

You bite back scathing, sarcastic cynicism when your excessively upbeat idiot coworker asks if you have a case of the Mondays. You’re too smart for this. You never wanted this job. You fell into it years ago, and the money keeps you shackled. Everything else is gone. Lovers can’t handle your bitterness. You inherited a backlog of awful, so you cut family out years ago. You got a bum deal; a lif...
There’s no greater freedom than living in your true self, a self authentically and lovingly connected to others. It’s how we are built. It’s how our children are built. Living the kind of balance many of us aspire to looks a heck of lot easier in print than it is in action. It takes work to integrate it all, but it is so worth it. I bring 14 years of doctoral + post-doctoral level training and ...
