My work years ago with adolescents led naturally to working more closely with parents, who often struggle themselves during this turbulent time for their children. A third of my practice is with adolescents (anxiety, depression, academic underachievement, identity issues), another third with parents and couples/marriage (with or without children), and the other third with individual adults (anxiety, depression, issues of generativity in personal and/or professional lives). My approach with teens is firm yet curious and respectful. Teens face a dizzying array of lifestyle and professional options in their near futures. While helping them uncover their strengths to better navigate high school and college, I convey to them how wondrous and exciting and brave their journeys are. I tend to view human problems systemically. That is, problems often exist BETWEEN people, not necessarily WITHIN people.
