Therapist Overview
There is nothing harder than witnessing a child in pain, who is unwilling or unable to talk about it. Adults often have words, but it’s a little trickier for kids and adolescents. In art therapy, we make things together that create a bridge to communication, sometimes staying in the metaphor, and other times using the art product as a jumping off point for verbal discussion. I am an artist and a therapist, aligned with you and your child. We create goals together. I provide a solid framework, parent coaching and ongoing support. We create opportunities for insight, meaningful growth and healthy risk-taking. With children, teens and adults, I use evidence-based, neurobiological, trauma-informed, CBT and psychoanalytic art and verbal approaches, while offering opportunities for connection, compassion, emotional regulation, flexibility, and enhanced personal competency. I am especially fond of somatic and mindfulness approaches to support emotional regulation. Sometimes words are not enough. Art-making, poetry and movement offer fresh perspectives; new endings to an old story. You don’t have to be an artist to connect with the authentic parts of yourself that are engaged and alive.
