Therapist Overview
Have you been told to look at your substance use by someone you are close to? Are you worried you might have a problem or know that you do? Substance use is on a continuum, with abstinence on one end and severe abuse, or addiction, on the other. Historically, approaches to substance use treatment have been binary—you either use or you do not. While this approach is effective for some people, for most it feels restrictive and at times punitive. The goal of therapy is for you to determine—you may want to examine your use, minimize it, work toward ceasing use all together or even maintain positive changes you have already made. My job is to help you gain clarity about your relationship with substances. I incorporate a strengths-based approach with the principles of harm reduction, designed to meet you where you are. Regardless of your goal, we will continually collaborate on ways to minimize any harm caused by substance use. For any treatment to have the best chance of being effective, addressing all of your concerns holistically is crucial. Where we start will be determined collaboratively. If you are ready to see if therapy can help you explore your relationship with substances, reach out. I offer no charge 30 minute in-person consultations.
