Therapist Overview
There’s a quote by Dr. Russell Barkley that says, “The kids who need the most love will ask for it in the most unloving ways.” Because I’m a mother of 5 that has 11 years of experience with adoption issues, I know this to be true. Developmental trauma has a huge impact on children, whether it is a result of inconsistent early caregiving (adoption/foster/difficult home life), a difficult pregnancy or delivery, early hospitalization, abuse, or neglect. These are the kids that desperately need to feel loved and secure, but will act out in many ways to test their caregivers’ resolve. The first defense in healing developmental trauma is knowledge. I specialize in teaching parents the “why” behind their children’s behavior and I have tools to help parents reach their children in spite of the behaviors. I know where you are. I’ve been there. I don’t have a magic cure, but I can teach you strategies to reach your kids and give you hope. Karyn Purvis (co-creator of TBRIĀ®) used to say, “I’ve never met a child who couldn’t come to deep levels of healing.” That means every child can heal in some capacity. That’s incentive enough for me. Let’s get to work!
