Traumatic events, whether they include emotional, physical or sexual abuse, witnessing violence, or a child being placed out of their home causes feelings of terror, anxiety, depression, and isolation. Parents, who have a trauma history, struggle with helping their child when they feel they can’t even help themselves. I do not believe that people who have experienced psychological trauma are “sick” or “mentally ill.” Rather, the symptoms of trauma reflect our body’s natural response to threat. I help children, adults, and families move beyond their traumatic experiences, find peace, and take back control over their lives. Through education, consistent support, and trauma-specific, strengths-based tools, I can help you learn how to keep yourself (and your child) safe, recognize your triggers (traumatic reminders), find protection from future victimization, feel stronger, and heal from trauma. My approach to therapy (and life) is based on honesty, respect, and collaboration. I believe that anyone who is motivated and willing to do the work of therapy can heal from trauma.
