I decided to become a therapist after dealing with the loss of my husband in 2002. I had to learn first hand, that life is not always fair, but we often do have choices to make. For me, therapy provided the tools I needed to get back on my feet and thrive. I believe that life will take us through some tough turns, and if we are willing to really experience them and learn from them, we can grow in ways we never thought possible. We live in a world that teaches us to avoid pain and suffering. We have “busied” ourselves, and although that can be effective, emotions tend to resurface. When asked what I do for a living, I explain that I attempt to help clients get more comfortable with discomfort. When we allow ourselves to fully embrace all emotions, we can be quite adaptive.
