In this stressful and unprecedented time, processing feelings in a safe and healing environment can assist with lessening anxiety, better sleep, and finding a feeling of safety and security. I have extensive experience working with patients and families during times of illness and at end of life. As a medical social worker, I have also been supporting medical professionals during this pandemic. My expertise extends into grief and bereavement. These can be defined and understood in many ways. Some examples are found in my work with caregivers who have lost loved ones, while other forms of grief can mean grieving our old way of life. Working from a strengths-based perspective, grief and bereavement counseling helps those who have lost a parent/caregiver, a child (including miscarriages), or partner/spouse (including divorce). Caregiver support includes exploration of relationships and role reversals as well. Together we work towards developing coping mechanisms for anxiety and depression Overall, my therapeutic style employs empathy, active listening, and reframing in a supportive environment. Mindfulness and meditation are a component of my own personal practice, and I am happy to share processes that have worked for me. My clinical experience of working in end of life care with adults and children, working as a geriatric consultant.
