Therapist Overview
Starting therapy and finding the right fit can be a daunting task. I view the therapeutic relationship as something that is co-created over time and as the primary tool for healing. Focusing on the here and now, we work to increase self awareness, compassion, insight and care while simultaneously holding the larger context within which we meet, including ways that race, gender, class and culture impact us. I work to understand how you can nurture yourself given your history and interests and make meaning of those experiences, ultimately moving forward with increased attention and joy in your life. I incorporate aspects of mindfulness and embodied self awareness including relaxation techniques, meditation and art, specializing in trauma, grief and child/family/parenting work. Nonviolent Communication™ and self compassion are core to my practice which are helpful for anger management as well as communication across settings and relationships. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology as well as a background in theatre and the arts with a social justice orientation. I strive to build a collaborative therapeutic atmosphere including ongoing discussion of the therapeutic alliance, goals and progress.
