My professional experience is with adolescents, preteens and young adults. As young people try to navigate the social and developmental changes that come with this time of accelerated physical, cognitive, and emotional growth, many struggle to figure out who they are in the world. This struggle can lead to poor choices, conflict with family and friends, and difficulty feeling confident. In some cases the challenges compound and young people develop mental health issues. I have had the privilege of spending countless hours providing therapy to adolescents with anxiety, depression, self-injury, school failure, low self-confidence, and peer/family conflict. While many young people struggle internally, they are unable to tell adults what they are experiencing. Problems are identified after emotions and behaviors escalate. As frightening as it is to watch our children try to navigate the challenges of our changing world, once we recognize their struggles, we can also recognize the opportuni
