Therapist Overview
In over 30 years of clinical practice I have learned from a variety of experiences that the most important part of working with adolescent and adult individuals, along with couples and families, is to provide a comfortable and non-judgmental atmosphere in my office. People feel shame at times about how their problem evolved and couples fear that one or the other will be blamed for the conflict in their relationship. In a friendly and thoughtful setting, I have observed that people who can relax and step back to look at the bigger picture can make better decisions and plans for change. No clinical approach works well without this I have worked in University hospital settings where I have met people from different backgrounds. In my private practice of many years I have worked with people with eating disorders and ones with self defeating addictive behaviors. Adolescents and their parents often are stuck in a relationship pattern with anger and resentment and no apparent way out.
