As humans, we are exposed to many environmental factors, both positive and negative, that impact how we function later in life. Issues that are problematic and negatively impact our lives are usually symptoms and not the problem. Together, we explore the symptoms to identify the deeper problems. I specialize in individual counseling, couples counseling (including premarital counseling), and family counseling. My approach to treatment is generally cognitive-behavioral therapy. I have more than 30 years as a clinician during which time I’ve worked with chronic psychiatric disorders, developmental disorders, and substance addiction. Through a structured interview and client engagement, I go beyond the obvious, the presenting issue, to identify the root problem. Based on the outcome of the interview and clinical expertise, I propose an individualized plan with goals that specifically targets the problems with specific objectives and timelines for meeting those objectives.
