Therapist Overview
I work with children and adolescents. I have experience with clients who encounter anxiety, depression, anger, grief, self-esteem, divorce, peer conflict, family conflict, behavior issues, and other life stressors and/or transitions. While I believe in an eclectic approach to counseling, I primarily use play therapy and cognitive-behavior therapy. My approach is highly dependent upon the needs of the individual client. I use both directive and non-directive play therapy techniques with children, as I strongly believe they communicate thoughts and feelings through play. My goal in counseling is to provide a safe space for clients to openly express their thoughts and feelings. My counseling approach involves working together with clients to discover their inner strengths and empowering them to use these strengths in their every day lives. By doing so, they will be able to face daily challenges with confidence. I believe that trust, empathy, acceptance, and understanding are essential in building the therapeutic relationship. My experience as a school counselor will aid me in making decisions in the best interest of the child. I believe in looking at the whole child to best understand his/her specific needs and goals.
