Therapist Overview
Becoming a counselor is something I have always wanted to do. Throughout my life I have focused on helping others work though difficulties they encounter. Being a good therapist requires more than just listening and agreeing with the client, it is placing yourself in their shoes to try and understand what they are dealing with. Being a good therapist requires empathy, understanding, intuitiveness and a non-judgemental attitude. These skills and others are what I bring to the therapy session every time. I’ve had the opportunity to work with children, adults, couples and families, and have valued each of those experiences very much. There are many “schools” of therapy and deciding which one to utilize is an important decision for a therapist. While I believe that each modality has something to offer, I believe Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy offer interventions that are effective with a variety of situations. As a mother I understand the importance of a healthy family dynamic and of helping children through tough times. As a wife I know the significance of a healthy marital relationship and as an individual I recognize the value in taking care of my own mental health.
