Therapist Overview
Social skills can be taught. I have 35 years public school experience mainly as a school counselor. Since 2008, I’ve been teaching social skills to children from Pre-K to Adolescence with diagnosed special needs and to children who just need some extra help. I want to provide for parents what I could not find for my child years ago. Parents come to me with common concerns, for ex., my child has no friends, can’t read social cues, lacks self-confidence, gets stuck on things, tantrums, interrupts, & doesn’t know how to handle anger & frustration. I teach social skills individually. Lessons are targeted to each child’s needs using real-life examples every week to demonstrate problem solving. I reinforce progress made during the lesson & progress at home & school. I emphasize the whole body listening method & how to read facial expressions, body language & tone. I’ve developed detailed lesson plans incorporating skills from “Superflex®, a Social Thinking® Curriculum” by Stephanie Madriga
