Therapist Overview
For over 20 years, I have worked with a diverse population of adults including those who are HIV+ and with the LGBTQ community. My style is highly empathic and non-judgmental and my approach combines elements from Humanistic and Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing and EFT. I have experience treating individuals with depression, anxiety, OCD, chronic illness, eating disorders and those with a history of trauma and PTSD. I have additional training in Brainspotting, an evidence-based form of psychotherapy developed by David Grand, PhD, in 2003 that evolved from EMDR and Somatic Processing. Brainspotting works neurobiologically by accessing, reprocessing and extinguishing stuck, unprocessed trauma (frozen survival modes) in the limbic and autonomic parts of the central nervous system. Within the context of a nurturing therapeutic relationship, it targets negative symptoms at the root and down-regulates the amygdala, the brain’s fear center. Core symptoms and experiences are released and healing can occur with surprising rapidity. In addition to the transcendent phenomenon of “post-traumatic thriving”, Brainspotting has the potential for alleviating a range of symptoms and can facilitate creativity expansion and performance enhancement.
