“The past is a foreign country: They do things differently there.” Hopeless depression, alarming anxiety or mental disorder cloud the present and the future because of things that happened in the past. Restoring a confident, vigorous focus when mental health is in disrepair and collapse feels imminent, requires a new course that may seem impossible. The pleasures and certainty of existence seem lost. Like restoring old furniture, it takes a commitment to revising friendships and family, or perhaps a job, until deterioration is replaced with a narrative of renewal. Compulsive abuse of substances make things worse. I have assisted individual adult or couples who want to write a new story for present recovery or a strategy for helping a troubled child or other family member. Or a senior, middle aged or younger adult who self-medicates with alcohol/drugs or questions the benefits of psychiatric medication. Some have struggled to give up criminal or aggressive behavior. Suffering from depression or anxiety, boredom or regret, confusion or anger is not fatal. A peaceful body, mind and spirit can be restored. A soul with joy and love, hope and trust can prevail. I am willing to guide lives who seek honest change to renew a clear mind and a vigorous spirit without relying on compulsive behavior. Give me a call.
