Therapist Overview
Art has the amazing power to release the areas of the mind that have been locked up due to previous traumas and experiences. I truly believe in the inherent healing nature that art provides, allowing us an avenue to reach our clients in a different way and create deeper connections through active engagement in art practices. I utilize mindfulness practices in my therapeutic approach and always encourage clients to look inward to find their own personal strengths to promote their healing. In order to be successful in the art therapy setting, creating a safe space for clients to grow, share, and heal is always priority. While the majority of clients that I work with are children and adolescents, I also work with adults experiencing a variety of symptoms, from anxiety to trauma. I believe that art therapy has the power to help every population, no matter what they are suffering from. It does not focus on the product of the art, but more on the process behind creating it. One does not have to be an artist to benefit from art therapy. Simply the act of creating art can bring about powerful affirmations and realizations. As the therapist, I provide a safe place to create art and explore the emotions that arise from creating art. Art provides an avenue of communication for words and thoughts that may be hard to verbalize.
