Counseling is a very difficult thing to do, so I commend you for taking this first step to research therapists in your area. I believe that the most important factor for counseling to be successful is the connection that you feel with your therapist. Trust is important for change to occur. Typically when you are struggling in any area of your life, it is because trust was violated at some level, whether you are aware of it or not. I specialize in working with older adults and their caregivers (particularly with a dementia diagnosis), I also have a wealth of experience in working with individuals challenged with such issues as depression, anxiety, bereavement, sexual abuse, retirement, life transitions and end of life issues. I am skilled in individual and family counseling and utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, inner child work with a family systems approach.
