Therapist Overview
The issue we all struggle with is how to remain present when our minds constantly are driven to anticipate and control an unmanageable future and keep a tight grip on an unbearable past (so that we are not overcome by it). When this dilemma becomes too much we lose trust, faith, and the use of intuition and begin to operate on fear, shame, and anger. This pattern is altered through someone making a “leap of faith” and trusting that someone can understand and see things through their eyes. This is what I consider to be the heart of my work and it typically means that change is happening before any other “intervention”. I have over 20 years of therapy and supervisory experience with a variety of populations and have treated many hundreds of people with anxiety, mood disorders, anger problems, PTSD and grief issues. I have training in cognitive and psychodynamic therapies as well as DBT and EMDR. I also pride myself on being able to think “outside the box”. The most important step in treatment is coming to an agreement on how the problem is defined and working toward what you feel is important. Nothing is happening if the conversation isn’t interesting and if it isn’t two-way. I do provide feedback (the single most common thing clients complain they don’t get) and I do answer questions.
