Therapist Overview
As is the case with many families throughout the world, I was impacted by the disease of addiction and thus devoted my academic career to researching the social problem addiction poses to the addict and society at large. I feel extremely grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to help individuals and their families afflicted with this heinous disease. My goal is to help those I treat to gain closure with regards to their traumatic pasts, cultivate a recovering identity and develop hope for a brighter future. In addition to my academic and vocational training, I am a person in long-term recovery. I am a Certified Daring Way facilitator. The Daring Way helps individual resolve issues with shame and vulnerability. I believe in a multi-modal approach consisting of the timely application of psychopharmacology, psychotherapy and 12-step self-help support groups. The Daring Way taught me how to relate to the underlying feeling/emotion not a situation or circumstance. I practice the attributes of empathy such as non-judgement and perspective taking. Continuing to do my own work as a person in long-term recovery makes it easier to empathize with those I treat.
