Therapist Overview
As a survivor of spiritual abuse, I combine both personal experience and research to help others who have experienced spiritual abuse find hope and healing with no pressure to “forgive and forget”. Although I have found my faith again, it is not my job to tell you what is right for you. It is a very personal journey to make and forgiveness does not equate to restoration when abuse has occurred. Although Matthew 18 has often been skewed to fit that message in the church. In many faith cultures we are taught to shy away from or “Let God” when it comes to the wrongdoings of the church, so spiritual abuse and trauma are so rarely spoken about despite being so widespread. We are supposed to be able to trust spiritual leaders, which leaves us more vulnerable to those seeking to use God and His people for their own purposes. Although I come from a Christian background, I am open to working with individuals from all walks of life and faiths. Spiritual trauma is not specific to one faith and also occurs in other settings such as organizations and cults. It is my hope to help individuals process through the anger, shame, guilt and grief that is common with spiritual abuse.
