Therapist Overview
I begin therapeutic work by building a relationship grounded in safety and connection. Through this relationship, we will find a pace of working together that allows us to pay attention to what’s getting in your way and to identify what will help you feel some relief on the way to long term growth and change. This early joining creates a solid ground from which we can work together to help you increase your awareness, accept and trust of yourself, explore your needs, and settle yourself when facing a difficult time. In other words, to face the world with a more settled nervous system. For 20 years, I have worked to support folks in finding and building on their existing strengths so they can better manage the impacts of anxiety, abuse, neglect, trauma, grief and loss, parenting, relationship issues, life transitions and everyday stressors. My approach tends to be conversational, drawing from a variety of approaches. The general framework is building or enhancing awareness of thoughts, feelings and body sensations; then working with these three channels of information to become more aware of their experiences & opportunities for change. I am trained in EMDR and use this strategy with interested clients where appropriate.
