Therapist Overview
When I began learning about therapy, the first thing that stood out was this statement: “The client- counselor relationship is the most important criterion for effectiveness.” In my experience with Suicide Prevention, Substance Dependence, Transition Aged Youth in Foster care, and Individual & Family therapy I found the statement to be accurate. In therapy, I aim to build positive rapport with clients using motivational interviewing skills including open & close ended questioning, empathetic listening, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. I believe the “real therapy” happens once you leave my office and use the tools discussed in therapy in your home, work, and recreation environments. I am comfortable diagnosing and treating anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT); I cannot prescribe or recommend medications as I am not a medical doctor. I thoroughly enjoy working with teenagers and young adult clients.
