Therapist Overview

Growing up with a physical, developmental or intellectual disability can present unforeseen challenges during adulthood. Once teenagers transition into adulthood, not only do they leave behind support services at school but they also begin a transition into more independent living at home, in a CILA or group home, or at an assisted living facility. Adults and their families can experience confusion and anxiety as they search for new resources to help them cope with the many challenges of adulthood. I have been a counselor for 20 years and have spent the last 10 years working with adults, teens, and children with physical and developmental disabilities. I opened Counseling for Special Needs Adults to assist adults with disabilities tackle mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, grief/loss, communication difficulties, and low self-esteem. Since people vary greatly in how they talk, move, and relate to others, I use a variety of tools in the therapy process, such as games/puzzl
