Therapist Overview

As a philosophical counselor, I utilize philosophical tools and theories to help my clients rationally address common issues that arise in life, and in doing so, learn to think more clearly, critically and deeply about them. Most of the issues we face every day are not pathological—they are not the result of mental illness—but rather just a part of life. These include questions about what career to pursue, or how to deal with a relationship issue, or how to find meaning in your life, or cope with the loss of a loved one, or resolve an ethical dilemma or to get clear on what fundamental values one holds or ought to hold. Philosophical counseling approaches such questions in a rational, critical manner. It proceeds by examining and assessing our implicit and explicit beliefs (are they justified?) and subjecting our general ways of habitual thinking to critical evaluation. The aim of this work is to achieve a clarity of thought about who we are, how we should act, what we should believe, and about how we wish to live our lives, through the use of philosophical resources designed to rationally address such problems.
