Therapist Overview
I counsel individuals and couples and run support groups, with empathy, clarity, and humor, maintaining a hybrid style that draws from mindfulness, practicality, and unconditional positive regard. I consider myself another person in the room, not a blank slate, and my clients and me a team, working together collaboratively toward their goals. I work in Manhattan (Flatiron) and Brooklyn (Park Slope). In addition to being a therapist, I’m also a writer and a teacher. I’m the author of a memoir, Ithaka, teach at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival, and work individually as a writing coach. Blending my two main areas of interest and expertise, I’ve created a model called Therapeutic Writing. When appropriate, I use memoir prompts, with individuals and groups, to encourage reflection, processing, and discovery. Participants can explore their internal experiences through short writing exercises, alternated with optional sharing and discussion.
