My primary belief as a therapist is that the client is the determining factor as to the direction of change, and my job is to help guide, educate, and provide insight into the possible choices. Cognitive therapies, including EMDR, focus on the connection between thoughts/beliefs and feelings and how examining these more closely can change how they can manifest in one’s life. Furthermore, EMDR works to resolve negative beliefs that are a result of past/present experiences. Clients who are open to the examination of thoughts/beliefs and feelings often find significant positive changes in life. As an EMDR trained therapist, I have experienced positive outcomes with clients who are addressing issues related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and low self esteem. EMDR relies less on traditional talk therapy and more on the client’s own brain being able to produce change and healing.
