Hi, my name is Laurie Works (they/them/xe/xer). I like to begin with that because I acknowledge it is difficult to find someone who understands the queer trans experience. Further, I want you to know I am deeply committed to working from an anti-oppressive approach. As part of that I utilize the following perspectives: anti-racist, anti-colonial, queer and trans affirming and celebratory, sex-positive, pro-disability justice, kink positive, fat positive, polyam-friendly, trauma-informed, Health at Every Size™, and strengths-based. I am firmly committed to providing accessible therapy- please ask me about my need-based sliding scale. I primarily utilize a somatic approach (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy), which is utilizing the body to access and resolve trauma. Our mind and body are deeply connected (think headaches from stress, etc) and I believe tuning into the body to heal can have a profound effect. I believe the body is not just our individual body but our collective, ancestral bodies. In our work together, you will be supported in shared decision-making, choice, agency, and empowerment to determine your own unique path of healing. I view our relationship as non-hierarchical – I am not the expert on you. I provide the tools, you bring yourself, and together we create transformation.
