I have over 16 years of counseling experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. These include, private practice, critical response teams, at-risk adolescent group homes, residential treatment centers, state prison, and behavioral schools. Specialties include: trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, depression, anxiety, job related difficulties/career related issues, life transitions and employee assistance. My areas of expertise are trauma and substance abuse. I recognize the connection between trauma and substance abuse and the difficulties people have in trying to cope with traumatic events. I am trained in EMDR and see my work with clients on a holistic level. My philosophy is based upon my experience; where I see my role as a counselor is to help the client, help themselves and not become dependent upon therapy. That translates to a direct approach in working with clients and supporting clients utilizing the tools/skills learned in therapy into their everyday lives.
