Therapist Overview
After working with disaster relief for more than 25 years, I wanted to help people with their everyday disasters and became a mental health counselor. I have worked with youth and children most, but have experience with adults, families, and marriage counseling. Communication, trauma, and respect have been the top three areas that have caused the most conflict in families, and learning to resolve those areas oftentimes holds the key to healing. New River believes it is important to understand the “why” behind the behavior, then work on ways to change. This occurs through CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), a process that opens up understanding of various behaviors. From there the client and therapist work together to determine the best route for change. it is easy to believe we are the only ones experiencing emotional problems, and are often embarrassed to ask for help. A broken bone usually leads to seeking a physician to fix the problem. Mental health is as important as physical health, and it you work side by side with the counselor to determine the best path to healing. Don’t be embarrassed to call.
