My approach is based on a strong foundation in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and is further augmented by more pragmatic approaches. I aim to help individuals set out on a path toward progress illuminated by insight while armed with practical tools. I help individuals identify how they tend to perceive themselves and others, manage their feelings, and cope with problems–and appreciate how their early life experiences may have shaped these tendencies. Understanding the origin and function of a person’s pattern of difficulties promotes a sense of compassion for how they came by these problems, and helps them consolidate motivation to make necessary changes. I find that progress is often accelerated by integrating more active techniques to help one develop pragmatic strategies for making desired changes.
