Therapist Overview
There is not a singular source to our suffering. Turmoil can originate in, and travel through, our bodies, minds, communities, families, and sociopolitical systems. Often, we respond to inner turmoil in two extreme ways. We may excessively worry, attempt to control, develop repetitive, troubling thoughts, or just obsess about our lives. Or we may do the opposite; we may avoid, isolate, refuse contact with situations we perceive to be dangerous or distressing, numb ourselves, or say ‘it is hopeless,’ and check out. Ultimately, we benefit from engaging thoughtfully with our grief and pain, as well as with our values and desires. Trained in exposure response prevention (ERP) techniques, I offer people opportunities to challenge their behaviors and beliefs in and out of session. Using a combination of mindfulness, behavioral techniques, and analysis of the therapeutic relationship, I work collaboratively to establish an environment conducive to a committed therapeutic journey.
