Therapist Overview
Not accepting new clients~ Congratulations on taking the first step to getting support. The word that comes first to my mind when I think of my clients is courage. It takes courage to reach out, courage to feel uncomfortable emotions and courage to embark on change. The skill I find most helpful as the therapeutic process begins is self-compassion. Most of my clients’ express struggling with self-criticism which results in feelings of unworthiness. As we begin the change process it can be easy for clients’ self-criticism to increase therefore, it is important we work together to develop your ability to treat yourself with kindness. Clients improve faster and with long-lasting positive change when they are able to integrate: kindness, coping skills and an understanding from neuroscience of how these skills make a difference. Emotions that arise can be met with compassion and understanding rather than frustration. You are taught how to not only tolerate, but process difficult emotions.
