Therapist Overview
I became a psychotherapist after many years as a college writing teacher, drawn by my interest in learning and emotion. I begin by listening so that I can understand the complexity of my client’s life story. Once we have reached a shared understanding, I work with my client to discover more effective and compassionate ways of relating to oneself and to others. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with anxiety disorders and depression, language-based learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and the consequences of trauma. This work has given me an appreciation of the human potential for growth and change. I have an MFA in Creative Writing and an interest in helping others examine their creative process and work through creative blocks. In working with children, I use expressive arts and play therapy techniques. I try to help individuals and families deepen their understanding and compassion for themselves and others.
