Therapist Overview
I work with children who experience anxiety, sensory overwhelm, trouble getting to sleep after an exciting day, difficulty with changes in routine, are deeply attuned to others’ distress, and feel things very deeply. Highly sensitive children often are very attuned to their environment, have intense emotional responses, and struggle to emotionally regulate when they become overstimulated. Their sensitivity to the world around them can be a gift, but it can also lead to frequent over-stimulation and an increased need for quiet time. I work with clients 3+ to teach them healthy ways to soothe anxiety, how to recognize when they need a break, build emotional regulation skills, and improve communication of intense feelings. I work collaboratively with families to help them appreciate this wonderful trait and teach them effective ways to respond to intense emotions. As a therapist, I love to incorporate creativity and mindfulness to engage and teach children important skills like emotional regulation. Play and art therapy harness children’s natural ability to learn through play in a supportive environment. I personalize my approach to each child to build on their strengths and interests in a way that they connect with.
