Therapist Overview
Dr. King believed that “Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted.” I agree. Many family, school, work, economic, and social systems are unjust, and our relationships can be troubled, including relationships with our own bodies and minds. Our “maladjustment” happens for good reasons! In my opinion, many of the bodymind differences that get diagnosed as mental illness, chronic illness, and disabilities are normal and valuable aspects of human diversity. The purpose of therapy, therefore, is not to “fix” us but to help us bring more compassion, creativity, and transformation into our lives and our world. I love collaborating with clients to do this work. My practice integrates different types of therapy (e.g., relational-cultural, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness therapies) to suit each person and their circumstances. I also consider our family, historical, cultural, and sociopolitical contexts as key in understanding ourselves and our ways forward.
