COVID-19 is traumatic regardless of a person’s age. The stress and trauma that comes from the Coronavirus steals a person’s sense of self and disconnects them from their interests and life goals. As a result, they may feel out-of-control, alienated and misunderstood. As a school transition specialist I help my younger clients (age six and up) feel a sense of control in this unpredictable environment, giving them a sense of mastery and allowing them to be better students and family members. With teens and adults, I work to directly address the anxiety and depression that can result from making plans in an uncertain world.
