Therapist Overview
I believe counseling is a medium from which clients can work towards actualizing their best self. This starts by gaining a good understanding of early relational experiences and how those foundational beliefs about oneself and others influence current functioning. I work collaboratively with clients to determine what feels important to explore and ways in which they want to feel better. My approach is informed by interpersonal, psychodynamic, and attachment theories with the belief that the therapeutic relationship can be healing and used to initiate change in other relationships in one’s life. I have a background working with adolescents in residential programs, as well as with adults in outpatient settings providing individual and group mental health and addictions counseling. I also have extensive experience working at university counseling centers focusing on a broad range of issues from anxiety and depression to trauma, gender and sexual identity, and adjustment issues.
