As a counselor, I put emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and creating an environment for the client to feel safe and learn to grow in their own strengths. I specialize in working with children and adolescents because I believe in helping kids find their voice when they feel control has been lost. By using play therapy techniques, I believe children increase in confidence, self-control, and taking responsibility. I also see the family as an important aspect of the relationship process. A child’s parents can be their biggest supporters, so they need to be incorporated into counseling and the growth process. Therefore, parents are encouraged to take an active role in therapy as well. I primarily work with children ages 4 to middle school using play therapy techniques.
