I am the director of operations for Crystal View Canyon Residential Treatment in West Hills, California. I treat and support addicted individuals as well as family members who are suffering from this debilitating disorder. Addiction is defined as maladaptive behavior that continues in spite of adverse consequences. In substance abuse, reward centers in the brain are activated by the substance creating a sense of pleasure, excitement, well being or relaxation. Lack of the substance consequently induces anti reward response such as depression and anxiety. I focus on treating the family as a system in addiction.
