As an art therapist, counselor and Ph.D. Mind Body Medicine degree candidate, I view clients holistically. This means that I view individuals as whole persons made up of physical, mental and spiritual health that are all interconnected. An imbalance in one of these areas can affect the others. For example, chronic anxiety can affect the body, leading to a weakened immune system and illnesses. When someone is experiencing anxiety or other mental health issues I work with them to make positive changes in daily practices that reduce stress and lead to greater overall well-being. I offer art therapy in addition to traditional talk therapy. It involves expressing thoughts or feelings through making collages using pictures from magazines, drawing with markers, crayons or colored pencils and painting. No artistic training or ability is needed. It’s especially helpful for young children and people of all ages who have experienced trauma. My clinic has a psychiatrist plus several mental health nurse practitioners who can prescribe medications if needed.
