I help individuals–adults, adolescents, couples, and their families–listen to themselves, express themselves, and make sense (and nonsense) of their wishes and their fears. This takes the form of an extended conversation, and includes the many features of such a conversation: interest, frankness, quiet, play, closeness, awkwardness, expressiveness, distance. Often, the work goes hand-in-hand with symptom relief, such as reducing experiences of unwanted worry, pressure, impulsivity, inhibition, and depression. It can also lead to less easily specified changes, such as feelings of freedom and creativity, new sources of enjoyment, and different experiences in relationships. People come to therapy when they are feeling stuck, frustrated, upset, or scared.
