Most people experience grief and loss at some point in their lives. It could be due to the death of a loved one or a traumatic event involving death like a natural disaster. Grief can lead to anger, confusion, sadness, loneliness, and helplessness. People can grieve relationships that end, parts of their life, pets, lost jobs, and many other things that come with experiencing life.
Available Treatment Options
The goal of most grief and loss therapy is to help people integrate and adjust to a life without the person or thing that they lost. Therapist interventions for grief involve identifying and processing emotions, remembering and commemorating what was lost, making sense of complicated relationships with the person who died (such as an abusive parent), and forging ahead in life with the acknowledgment of the loss but the strength to keep going.
